是一首英国很老的民谣，背景来源有两个出处。一个见于17世纪早期的《苏格兰手卷》(《Straloch Manuscripts》)中一个名叫《God be wi’ thee, Geordie》的故事。另外一个出处见于Buchan在1828年编写的《古民谣和歌曲>>一个非常感人的故事:丈夫Geordie为了一家人的生计，偷了皇家饲养的鹿到市场上贩卖，而后被皇家士兵抓了起来，并将处以死刑,妻子为了丈夫能够活下来，向法官求情.这首歌就是妻子在讲述自己的故事，希望法官能够原谅自己的丈夫。  法官同意释放Geordie,不过前提是要他亲手杀掉自己的妻子,最终Lady Ann为了挽救丈夫的性命而选择死亡。
